Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director of Communications is responsible for assisting in developing the communications strategies and campaigns to elevate the Gabelli School of Business brand reputation and visibility in the US and in international markets as a top-tier, highly competitive business school.

Essential Functions:
Manages public relations initiatives and assists in overseeing the relationship with our external PR firm, ensuring the regular pitching and placement of faculty content experts across industries, helping to build thought leadership that positions the school for lucrative consulting opportunities in areas including AI, marketing research, finance, responsible and sustainable business, supply chain management, accounting, and business analytics.

Cultivates deep relationships with local, national, and global media, regularly briefing them on developments at the school, including newly published faculty research, academic and career-focused initiatives, and student accomplishments and outcomes.

Plays a role in helping to develop strategically focused communications for admissions marketing at both the graduate and undergraduate levels that drive enrollment and position the school in national and global markets. Works directly with the Senior Director, developing admissions-driven web content to tell the student and alumni stories that build brand recognition and set the tone for successful undergraduate and graduate recruitment marketing.

Helps to proofread and edit large-scale advertising campaigns that are deployed across the
country and around the world to increase enrollments for each graduate degree program and the School as a whole.

Assists in developing and editing a wide range of critical communications vehicles, including the Gabelli School Business Magazine, the annual report, newsletters, and digital communications, large-scale pitch decks, and admissions presentations at the graduate and undergraduate level. Amplifies stories regarding student job placements and experiential learning opportunities designed to clearly articulate positive outcomes in order to yield students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Works in conjunction with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and the assistant director of events and social media to schedule, organize, and promote increasingly large-scale industry conferences and events that draw thousands of attendees each year. Oversees press relations at onsite events, providing recaps on panel discussions and content for social media posts and for larger stories. Events include the FBI / ICCS conference, executive-level conferences for the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis and the OShea Center for Credit Analysis and Investment, AI & Healthcare, and AI in business events, as well as large-scale conferences for the Responsible Business Center.

Provides media training to ground faculty members and administrators in the most effective ways to interact with the press and amplify their own expertise as well as the Gabelli School brand.

Builds reporter lists by category within the MuckRack monitoring system for deploying press releases by beat. Establishes KPIs for measuring media mentions and placements and tracks all activity via widgets within pre-determined dashboards.

Strengthens the Gabelli Schools ties to NYC businesses and government agencies through the invitation of external speakers to sit on internal industry panels.

Writes detailed press releases and announcements for a broad range of initiatives, activities, and events. Drafts social media posts and screens for reposting through the Gabelli School Feed.

In collaboration with the Senior Director, manages the external public relations firm, brainstorms on key industry trends and the connections between Gabelli School internal expertise as it relates to building perceived thought leadership and brand recognition.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications or public relations.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and platforms.

Excellent professional judgment in managing sensitive situations and information. Demonstrated ability to use and manage all forms of social media.

Working knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office suites.

Preferred Qualifications:
More than 7 years of experience in communications or public relations.

Masters degree in communications, journalism or a related field and previous or current work in a university setting is highly preferred.

Experience in college and university communications and event organizing.

Minimum Starting Salary:
$81,000

Maximum Starting Salary:
$100,000

Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
