Job Description

Definition:  The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing, analyzing sales, market, economic and other data, leading and overseeing the direction of firm-wide activities related to the planning, development and implementation of all of C&P’s strategic marketing initiatives, communications, and market leadership. Leads the operations and staff of the firm’s marketing department and coordinates at strategic and tactical levels with the other departments/functions of the Organization.

Qualifications:  This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or at least 15 years’ experience in an architectural/engineering firms marketing department.

Responsibilities/Skills:

Marketing, communications and public relations

  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing plan that will enhance the organization’s image and position within the marketplace and the general public.

  • Ensure articulation of C&P’s desired brand and industry position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the company, and assure communication of image and position to all others, both internal and external; Branding.

  • Ensure articulation of strategic direction/message of firm’s short and long term direction and initiatives to departments and staff as appropriate.

  • Responsible for editorial direction of all publications, collateral, advertisement, and website/social content.

  • Responsible for overseeing public relations program designed to enhance image, exposure, and reach of the company and staff.

  • Conducting Marketing meetings

  • Oversee conference, convention and association direction and involvement.

  • Participate in industry events and conferences as needed to research/maintain strategic awareness and advantage in marketplace and provide “high level” touch to clients and other industry professions.

  • Oversight of leads, proposal tracking and prospect management; direct and ensure follow-up efforts with prospects.

Sector/Client Development

  • Work with Sector Leaders and Principals to develop, coordinate and oversee plans, facilitate technical assistance and creation of resource materials used in the development, marketing, and positioning of their sector.

  • Oversee “understanding of client” and creation and updates of business plans for top clients.

  • Work with Sector Leaders on client retention programs; associated with client understanding/analysis and provide assistance in creation, distribution and management of client surveys.

  • Ensure that the Organization regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinate and oversee this activity. Monitor trends.

Systems/Guidelines/Standards

  • Oversee selection and use of software/programs that assist in marketing and business development efforts.Assist with creation of training programs/materials as needed.

  • Oversee database as it relates to the storage and management of contact, opportunity, project, client and information used in business development efforts.Assist with creation of training programs/materials as needed.

  • Oversee development of “marketing” project tracking and development.Ensure the success of automated process of proposal, resume, and project page creation.

  • Oversees the development of standards and guideline for corporate image and promotional materials to present uniform corporate brand/image.

  • Responsible for quality management of promotions, proposals and specific marketing materials.

Planning and Budgeting

  • Develop annual budget for department and corporate expenses.

  • Assist in development of sales projections with Sector/Principal staff.Ensure accurate goals tracked for financial performance records.

  • Assist in the development of short and long-term plans and projections for the marketing program (i.e. Sector leaders/Studio Managers) and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.

Managing/Supervising

  • Ensure effective management of the marketing team by providing supervision, training, mentorships as well as career development and succession plans.Assisting in planning, assigning and directing work.

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training of marketing staff. Conducting performance appraisals while recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance.

  • Mentorship of marketing and other staff so they can take action on behalf of C&P by:

    • Engaging people in the direction and future of the company – empowerment

    • Effective communication which includes helping people transform information into knowledge and learning; Respecting and using the skills, expertise, experience and insights of people

Culture

  • Maintain a corporate climate and culture that attracts, retains and motivates top quality personnel. Coordinate with Human Resources to seek regular input from the C&P staff regarding the quality of processes, programs, services, culture and improve “employee retention”

  • Oversee all internal promotion of the firm as well as assist with Human Resources regarding Corporate wellness program

  • Oversee all corporate planning and events.Review budgets and spending as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, able to handle stressful situations and multi-tasking, able to work under time constraints, long hours may be required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to handle stressful situations, multi-tasking, and working within reasonable time constraints to meet deadlines. Will work in normal office environment.
