The Chief of Staff (CoS) and Director of Communications partners with the Dean and leadership team to magnify the impact and influence of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. The work of the Cos and Director of Communications will be divided into two main workstreams: 1) Operational Innovation and Strategic Planning; and 2) Marketing and Communications.

Operational Innovation and Strategic Planning

The functions related to the CoS duties will be outlined in this section.

The CoS serves as a principle advisor to the Dean of Moritz College of Law. Reporting to the Dean, this is a highly visible role with high impact that will help shape the strategic direction of the college. This position serves as a member of the Dean's leadership team and provides leadership, coordination, development and execution of strategic initiatives across constituencies in the college and university. This role executes key strategic priorities and initiatives by exploring, identifying and evaluating comprehensive information and data to provide guidance, advice and assistance on a range of issues. The CoS ensures the dean is well prepared for interactions with internal and external stakeholders and partners in collaboration with the deans executive assistant.

The CoS provides independent, confidential, executive-level administrative support to assist with managing the day-to-day Deans office operations and procedures. Organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive team to facilitate efficient decision making. Acts as a point of contact between top management and other stakeholders.

Works closely with the Dean and executive team to provide high-level project management support across internal and external constituencies in a large, complex organization. Provides explanations and guidance to others across the internal organization for effective implementation of processes, initiatives, and special projects.

The CoS will work closely with the dean and leadership of the college (including associate deans, assistant deans, senior staff, department chairs and center directors) to coordinate and align the strategic planning process to ensure initiatives are advanced in alignment with the strategic plan. Develops, implements and executes project plans crossing multiple areas of the college. Directs, manages, makes decisions and prioritize large, complex projects and initiatives on behalf of the Dean. Keeps Dean advised on relevant issues and makes certain issues brought to the Deans office are addressed efficiently and effectively.

Partnering with the Chief Administrative Officer and HR, the CoS will work to support employee retention through staff programming and development opportunities.

Marketing and Communications

The functions related to the communications duties will be outlined in this section .

Collaboratively with the Dean and College leadership, this position works to develop and implement strategy and tactics to increase visibility and proactively create opportunities for faculty to engage with the media and share their expertise research, and engagements externally; attract students to the College; facilitate alumni and partner relationships; strengthen ongoing advancement efforts; and garner greater national, state, and local attention for the College.

The Director of Communications and Public Relations is also responsible for overseeing the Colleges Marketing and Communications department, directly supervising a staff of four communications and events professionals. The director is responsible for coordinating projects; engaging in direct development of marketing and communications content for the College, including editing work of staff members; collaborating with vendors as needed and dictated by the Colleges strategic mission.

The team will nimbly utilize social media, web-based advertising, and other emerging media and techniques to attract students and attention to the College; forge and maintain strong ties with traditional national, state, and local media outlets, creating additional opportunities for faculty media exposure and presence and amplifying faculty voice and visibility; approach communications from a modern marketing perspective; strategically prioritize marketing and communications efforts; ensure a strong, clean visual brand; and work collaboratively with leadership and internal stakeholders

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. An advanced degree may be required. 10 years of relevant experience required. 15 or more years of relevant experience preferred.

Desired Experience : 10+ years of relevant experience in a marketing or communications field. Prior experience in marketing for The Ohio State University College of Law. Demonstrated excellence in written, visual, and/or digital marketing and communications. Proven ability to deliver projects that achieve strategic objectives on-time and on-budget. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Collaborative, creative, modern, marketing-oriented approach. Experience in higher education and/or law or a law-related setting. Experience in leading a team or in management. Experience fostering a collaborative and creative work environment
