Description
The Mehrotra Institute is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to lead marketing, communications, media relations, and brand strategy efforts. This hands-on role is responsible for building the Institute's visibility, translating research for public audiences, and supporting its growth as a nationally recognized voice on business, markets, and society.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy
Serve as the Institute's primary communications strategist
Create and manage content across digital, media, and marketing channels
Lead media outreach, press relations, and journalist engagement
Manage website content, social media, and digital communications
Translate research and academic content into accessible public-facing materials
Promote Institute research, events, programs, and initiatives
Coordinate branding and communications with Boston University and Questrom communications teams
Support communications with faculty, students, policymakers, practitioners, donors, board members, and media
Monitor analytics and optimize communications performance
Help build and protect the Institute's reputation and public profile
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, or related field
57 years of progressive marketing, communications, or brand strategy experience
Experience developing integrated communications strategies
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Media relations experience, including pitching stories and managing press inquiries
Experience managing social media, websites, and digital analytics tools
Ability to translate complex topics into engaging public content
Experience working within large or complex organizations
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in business, finance, policy, higher education, or research communications
Existing media and journalist relationships
Crisis communications or reputation management experience
Experience supporting donor communications or board relations
Familiarity with podcast production and promotion
Graduate degree in a related field
Interest in business, governance, markets, and society
Working Conditions
Evening and weekend work may be required for events and major initiatives
Hybrid work may be available based on University policies and operational needs
Compensation
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
Final salary determined by qualifications, experience, education, training, and internal equity considerations
