The Regional Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, cultivating, and delivering a proposal presentation and closing new business within their territory. Present weekly updates of all prospective customer activities associated sales reporting, and senior level updates as required. Participate in appropriate sales related conferences and events.

What youll do as a Regional Business Development Manager\:

  • Identify financially profitable new business opportunities for McLane through various means to include cold calling, networking, and relationship building.
  • Prioritize and profile potential customers to determine type of business and degree of urgency with which to pursue.
  • Determine and assign sales accountability with assistance from Regional Sales Director and Market Director for potential business less than $50M in annual volume.
  • Establish appropriate contact within potential customer and proceed with relationship building meetings.
  • Identify and define customer needs and expectations across all facets of potential service to be proposed.
  • Gather all pertinent sales, service, store data, and other information needed to compile a financial proforma business model.
  • Provide volume projections and cost assumptions to the Pricing Team and assist with preparation of financial modeling.
  • Prepare McLane branding compliant financial proposal presentation deck supporting the approved model details.
  • Review and validate models and associated proposal presentations with the Sales Director and appropriate Retail senior leadership as outlined in DSA approval matrix.
  • Schedule and perform presentations of approved financial proposals to appropriate customer decision makers.
  • Participate in all follow-up negotiations or conversations regarding proposal.
  • Draft initial Distribution Service Agreement (DSA) based on acceptance of proposal by customer; review with appropriate Retail senior leadership; and deliver to customer.
  • Maintain travel schedule to efficiently conduct business prospecting, cultivating, presenting, and successfully acquiring new business within budgeted guidelines.
  • Comply/adhere to all McLane Company travel and expense policies in all company expenditures.
  • Attend McLane Sales, Merchandising and/or Operational meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend state, industry and key customer trade shows as agreed upon with the Sales Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications youll bring as a Regional Business Development Manager\:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in generating and maintaining new business sales.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in management in the grocery, sales, retail, or similar job fields.
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail and broadline food businesses.
  • Leadership abilities to include both verbal and written communication skills, a professional attitude and appearance, organization skills, strong self-confidence, multi-tasking, decision making skills, and the ability to plan for success.
  • Intermediate Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with many different reporting level groups, to include company executives, regional directors, district managers, store personnel, peers, and subordinates.
  • Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, intra-company memos and outside correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors, and teammates.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with an ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid drivers license and a safe driving record.
  • Successfully pass an education/experience verification, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
