Position summary: The director of marketing and communications provides strategic leadership in pursuing the vision, mission, and growth goals of York University. Collaborating with the offices of Advancement, Admissions, Athletics, and Academics, this position will be responsible for internal and external communication of the university's strategic initiatives, prioritizing enrollment, outreach, and alumni relations.

Responsibilities

  • Chair of the Marketing Committee: Lead campus marketing efforts through coordination with a team of individuals across campus who are responsible for external messages.
  • Perform market analysis in order to identify competitive opportunities for the university enrollment marketing.
  • Advise the university on lead generation in relation to KPIs on enrollment and fundraising goals as proven through data-driven decision making and marketing strategies.
  • Achieve success metrics by improving engagement, stronger brand awareness, enrollment growth, increased donor participation and giving.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for each branch of the university in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Connect the university's value proposition with potential donors and with prospective students.
  • Oversee the website maintenance and development for the main campus and online.
  • Lead advertising strategies with external vendors, including digital advertising, social media, and printed or displayed advertising.
  • Oversee brand and promotional policies across the university system.
  • Create digital and physical promotional materials for the university.
  • Manage external communications with future students in coordination with CRM managers across the university system.
  • Create and manage intake processes and criteria for internal communication for the university events or community-level promotional needs.
  • Become familiar with York University's audiences and tailor storytelling for each type on an annual basis.
  • Create a unifying social media strategy for York University.
  • In collaboration with the President, oversee external communications, including press releases and crisis communications.

Skills

  • Must be familiar with digital data analytics, SEO, CRM, and graphic design tools.
  • Training and experience in project management is preferred.
  • Must be able to cast a futuristic vision and use backward design calendars to create institutional strategies for success.
  • Must be able to develop scalable marketing systems and refine strategies to improve return on marketing investment.
  • Must have written and oral communication skills for a wide variety of audiences and contexts.
  • Able to work well with others in both leadership and followership capacities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful marketing, enrollment, and public relations strategies.
  • Strong digital skills and familiarity with current market trends in media.
  • Understanding and adherence to the religious heritage and Christ-centered mission of the university.

Physical Demands

  • Endure demands resulting from significant time spent on a computer.
  • Endure demands that result from variable and sometimes extended work hours.
  • Be able to lift more than 20 pounds.
