The Director of Public Relations (PR) leads the strategy, execution, and performance of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authoritys domestic earned media program. As the LVCVA transitions to in-house public relations, this role will design and implement proactive media strategies that drive positive national coverage, elevate the Las Vegas brand, and support leisure visitation.
This position serves as a strategic storyteller and media leader, responsible for identifying timely news opportunities, shaping announcement strategies, and deepening relationships with key domestic media. The Director partners closely with marketing, digital, corporate communications, and international teams to ensure message alignment while owning domestic earned media execution. What Youll Do:

Strategic Domestic Earned Media
- Develop and lead domestic earned media strategies aligned with organizational priorities, marketing initiatives, and destination milestones.
- Identify and activate proactive news hooks tied to marquee events, cultural moments, and major Las Vegas announcements to generate national coverage.
- Define and report on performance metrics that demonstrate the impact of domestic earned media across consumer and trade audiences.
- Direct day-to-day domestic PR efforts, including pitching, FAM trips, press events, broadcast opportunities, and trade engagement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for domestic media, overseeing development of press materials such as releases, talking points, media alerts, and briefing documents.
- Build and manage relationships with key national consumer, travel, lifestyle, and travel trade media, and coordinate domestic media presence at major destination events and activations.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Digital, Airline Development, Research, Corporate Communications, and International PR to align domestic earned media with broader destination priorities and maintain consistent messaging.
- Lead, mentor, and develop domestic PR staff while managing the domestic earned media budget and resource allocation.
- Oversee related administrative responsibilities, including approving travel requests, expense reports, and other documentation.
What Were Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field, or high school diploma (or equivalent) plus 4 additional years equivalent job-related experience; advanced degree preferred.
- Accomplished leader in public relations, communications, and/or journalism with 10 years proven experience in strategic public relations and/or communications disciplines.
- Writes, reads, analyzes, and interprets documents including reports, budgets, business correspondence, sales collateral, and procedure manuals.
- Strong presentation and listening skills required to communicate effectively to diverse audiences (leadership, clients, partners, and the general public), respond to questions, and adapt style across formats.
- Advanced listening and communication skills with clients, vendors, management, and other ambassadors in a variety of formats.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Must be able to work non-traditional office hours as needed, and travel for extended periods when necessary.
- Must have or be able to obtain a current U.S. Passport for required international travel. The role requires the ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed; multilingual capability is strongly preferred.
