Public Relations Specialist UVA Health

UVA Health is seeking a skilled Public Relations Specialistwho thrives in a fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone with astrong foundation in writing, storytelling , and media relations especially candidates withjournalism or science writing experience whois excited to share impactful health stories. As part of the UVA Health team,you will play a key role in shaping how we communicate.

What Youll Do

• Write compelling press releases, media advisories, and other communications on topics such as research, patient care , and institutional initiatives
• Identify and coordinate subject-matter experts for media opportunities
• Monitor news and proactively connect UVA Health experts to relevant, timely stories
• Respond to media inquiries quickly and accurately, including staffing the media relations hotline
• Support media events, interviews, and on-site coordination
• Assist with tracking media coverage and reporting key metrics
• Serve as on-call Public Information Officer as needed
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure clear, consistent messaging

What Were Looking For

• Strong writing and editing skills; candidates that demonstrate writing experience will be highly considered.
• Background in journalism, communications, public relations , or a related field
• Ability to translate complex or scientific topics into clear, engaging content
• Strong judgment and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working in the media or working with the media in public relations or a similar role .

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree required
• At least 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Journalism or science writing experience
• Experience working with media or in a deadline-driven environment
