Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Chief of Engagement & Retention Marketing and reporting directly to the Staff Services Manager II - Marketing Manager Player Loyalty and Email Communications, the Senior Marketing Specialist - Email Communications and Loyalty Programs will be responsible for the strategic planning, execution and optimization of the Lottery's loyalty programs and email marketing communications. The Senior Marketing Specialist brings an extensive email and loyalty marketing background and serves as a subject matter expert to manage end-to-end email campaigns and loyalty promotions to optimize performance. This vital role will lead the loyalty promotions and email development/creation process from concept through implementation, including developing promotional calendars and creative (concept, content, copy, and design). This position is critical to ensuring that the Lottery provides an exceptional experience that motivate consumers to play Lottery games, build an understanding of the Lottery's mission and impact, increase loyalty to the brand, and drive sales in order to generate supplemental funding for public education.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: "telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably with a specialization in marketing, communications, or a related field.

  • 6+ years of progressive marketing experience with at least 4 years of hands-on email marketing experience.

  • Expertise in email content creation, list management and targeting, knowledge of dynamic content, campaign automation and orchestration, and understanding of email best practices.

  • At least 3 years of loyalty marketing experience with a high-profile consumer brand.

  • Proficient experience driving and growing customer acquisition/enrollments/subscriptions, engagement, and retention and understanding of loyalty marketing best practices.

  • Extensive experience using an advanced enterprise email marketing platform (i.e. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign, Responsys, Hubspot etc.). Strong HTML skills preferred.

  • Ability to analyze campaign data, identify insights, and create clear reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Experience with design tools (i.e. Photo shop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, Figma etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

  • Experience in gaming, entertainment, e-commerce, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or consumer packaged goods (CPG) categories preferred.
